King's Mead School memorial garden

The new owners of the King's Mead site have been generous in allowing space for a small memorial garden to commemorate the school and allow remembrance of those boys who gave their lives in World War II. It is placed, as far as I know, roughly where the swimming pool used to be. The obelisk is of granite and stands 2 metres high. The chapel window sills on which these names had been engraved in the late 1940s have been taken off the site with the help of Tony Monnington and are now being stored temporarily on his farm not too far away.

A Service of Dedication led by the Rev Francis Gardom was held on Saturday 22nd May 2004 (click here for more details)

The names commemorated on the memorial obelisk

This Memorial Garden owes its existence to the generosity of Barratt's Development plc who built the houses on what was once the site of King's Mead School
